“Walked From New York
To New Straitsville
Hon. E. S. Martin, accompanied by L. R. Warren of Spotswood, N. J., arrived here Tuesday from New York City, having walked every step of the way. The two gentlemen left the 130th street Ferry, New York at 9 a. m. on April 17th, and walked through Phillipsburg, N. J., Eastern Pennsylvania, Reading, Lancaster, York, Gettysburg, Hagerstown, Cumberland, Uniontown, Brownsville, Wheeling, St. Clairsville, Cambridge, Zanesville and from there to New Straitsville.
The walk was done in 20 days and 14 days were spent in sightseeing. The distance covered was 590 miles. The biggest day’s walk was 42 miles in ten hours, from Wheeling, W. Va. to Washington, O. The average speed was four miles an hour for the entire trip.
Mr. Warren will soon continue his trip. He intends walking to San Francisco from here.”
